TICKS

Protect your family from ticks.

Ticks are external parasites that feed on the blood of wildlife such as mice, deer, fox, raccoons, and rabbits. They pose real and serious health concerns as they are known to carry and transmit disease and illness to humans and domestic animals. In many parts of the country, ticks are known to hide in wooded and overgrown areas such as shrubs, grass, trees, and woodlands.

Types of Ticks

The two main types of ticks most people will ever encounter are the Black Legged Tick (or Deer Tick) and Brown Dog Tick:

  • The Black Legged Tick (Deer Tick) has a body with a flattened oval shape and no hard shell. Its sharply pointed mouthpart is visible when viewed from above. They measure between 1/8” and 1/16” of an inch long, and become much larger when engorged with blood.
  • The Brown Dog Tick is consistently 1/8” long, but can grow up to a full ½” when engorged with blood. It has a flattened body with mouth parts visible from above and the male has tiny pits scattered on its back.

Ticks are not necessarily a fact of life, even if you live in a heavily wooded area in the Triangle area. The pest control experts at The Neuse are highly trained to find and destroy ticks wherever they may live on your property.
